Case Study: Queens House – St Albans – Serviced Office Cabling and Technology Installation

Client: Tech Sapiens
Duration: 10 months (phased installation)
Scope: Serviced office cabling and technology infrastructure across four floors

Serviced Office Cabling Project Overview

Queens House is a prominent commercial office space located in the heart of St Albans, just north of London. The building underwent a phased redevelopment to upgrade its internal technology and infrastructure to meet the demands of modern business tenants.

The project was delivered over a 10-month period in coordination with a phased construction schedule. This allowed work to continue without interrupting other trades or timelines.

Our Role at NM Cabling

We were appointed to provide structured cabling and technology infrastructure throughout the building. Our scope included:

  • Installation of 250 Cat6 data outlets

  • Installation of 40 Cat6a data outlets

  • Design and Installation of containment and cabling for the following systems:

    • CCTV

    • Wi-Fi Access Points

    • Televisions

    • Audio Visual systems

    • Video Conferencing Systems

    • General Data Networking

  • Installation of electrical containment, trays, conduit, and floor boxes.

All installations were carried out across four floors of the building, and all cabling was provided from a dedicated communications room.

How Our Serviced Office Cabling Supports Modern Business Needs

Reliable Network Infrastructure

The Cat6 and Cat6a outlets provide high-speed, efficient data transmission for users across the building. Cat6 supports up to 1 Gbps, while Cat6a offers 10 Gbps over the standard 90m of structured cabling. This setup ensures the network can support modern workstations, cloud services, and high-bandwidth tools.

CCTV and Security Cabling

By pre-installing structured cabling for CCTV, the building now supports IP-based surveillance. This allows tenants or building management to scale their security systems easily and integrate remote monitoring. Our remit was to install the data cabling and all the relevant metal containment for these systems.

Wi-Fi Coverage

We installed data cabling for Wi-Fi access points across each floor. This supports full wireless coverage and ensures smooth performance for all connected devices.

To ensure current and future-proof systems, two Cat6a data cabling outlets were installed to each Wifi access point.

Audio Visual and Video Conferencing

Dedicated cabling for AV and conferencing systems ensures tenants can utilise meeting spaces without connectivity issues. It supports hybrid work, virtual meetings, and screen sharing—essential features in most workplaces today.

The AV system consisted of cabling to the following systems.

  • Speaker cabling to Sonance speaker systems
  • Meeting Room and Display Screens
  • Yealink Video Conferencing Systems
  • Meeting Room Booking Systems

Project Highlights

  • 4 floors wired for full connectivity

  • 290 structured cabling outlets installed

  • Technology-ready building fit for multiple tenants

  • 10-month phased delivery without disruption to other trades

Benefits for Other Properties

Our structured cabling design allows flexibility for future upgrades. Any commercial office can benefit from a similar approach—installing data, AV, and security infrastructure during the fit-out phase reduces future cost and disruption. It also helps attract tenants who expect robust digital infrastructure from day one.
