The Euston Tap and Cider Tap – Fibre Optic Cabling Links

The Euston Tap on Euston Road is a craft beer pub located at the entrance to the main National Rail Station and called our team with a problem with there network connection which proved to be their fibre cabling.
On the site are two pubs, Euston Tap and The Cider Tap, which are connected via a beer cellar which serves both buildings
The customer was having problems with their tills and computers in the Cider location and required investigation work to rectify the IT Problems
Our initial investigations showed no live connection reaching the building from the incoming broadband in the Euston Tap. Upon further investigation, a broken fibre was found within the cellar linking the buildings.
The issue with the fibre was that it was a standard PVC-coated fibre and offered no protection to the heavy goods moved daily in the cellars.
The proposal and solution involved a pair of armoured OM3 fibre optic cables separated along the route connecting the two buildings. The reason for separating them was that in the case of one becoming damaged, an instant backup fibre was in place to swap straight over to. This is also known as diverse fibre routing.
As part of the installation, the copper patch leads and IT equipment areas were removed and re-installed, as they all had to be removed to route and terminate the fibre cabling.
As we undertake a large amount of data cabling and fibre cabling projects in the Euston area, we were able to investigate the works the day of the enquiry and follow this up with installation within 48 hours.
