Cable Installation Shielding Options

Twisted Pair Cabling is a type of cabling that is used for various purposes such as computer networks, telephone systems and other data transmission systems. It consists of two insulated wires that are twisted together in order to reduce interference from outside sources. There are many different types of twisted pair cables, each with their own specific use.

STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable is a type of twisted pair cable that has an extra layer of metal shielding around each pair of wires. This provides additional protection against electromagnetic interference, making it ideal for use in noisy environments.

FTP (Foiled Twisted Pair) cable is a type of twisted pair cable that has an outer layer of foil wrapping around each individual pair of wires. This helps to block unwanted signals from entering or leaving the cable, improving performance.

UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) cable is the most common type of twisted pair cable. It does not have any additional shielding around the pairs of wires, making it more affordable than other types of cables. However, this also makes it more susceptible to interference.

Commonly used data cables

Cat5 cable is a type of twisted pair cable that is used for Ethernet networks. It is made up of four pairs of twisted wires, with each pair containing a different colour wire. Cat5 cable is typically used for data transmission speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Cat6 cable is a newer type of twisted pair cable that supports data transmission speeds up to 10 Gbps. It is made up of four pairs of twisted wires, just like Cat5 cable, but the pairs are wrapped in an additional layer of insulation. This provides improved performance and reduced crosstalk.

This makes them ideal for use in high-bandwidth applications, such as large data centres or telecommunications networks. Single mode fibre consists of a thin glass strand that is typically less than 10 microns in diameter. With a core refractive index that is greater than the cladding surrounding it. It also uses a light source with a narrow wavelength range to minimise distortion and allow for higher data transmission rates.

Multi-mode fibre

Multi mode fibre, also known as multimode optical fibre, is a type of fibre optic cable that is typically used for shorter-distance data transmission. It can support data transmission speeds up to 10 Gbps and has a larger core than single mode fibres, which allows it to transmit light signals over multiple paths at the same time. This makes it ideal for use in short-range applications, such as Ethernet networks. Multi mode fibre consists of a glass or plastic core that is typically between 50 and 100 microns in diameter, with a refractive index that is lower than the cladding surrounding it. It uses a light source with a wide wavelength range to allow for multiple data transmission paths. Because of its high bandwidth potential and low cost, multi mode fibre is a popular choice for network infrastructure.

What are CPR Regulations?

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) was introduced in 2013 and applies to all construction products that are placed on the market in the European Union. The regulation requires manufacturers of construction products to declare the performance of their products in relation to a number of essential requirements. Such as fire safety, acoustic performance and energy efficiency. The CPR also requires that construction products are CE marked, in order to show that they meet the necessary requirements.
